I’M ‘THAT’ MOM.

I’ll admit it. I’m ‘that’ Mom. You’ve seen her. You’ve talked about her. You’ve laughed at her.
I am the Mom who follows behind her kids while they ride their bikes, trying to make sure they don’t fall off. I’m the Mom who insists that my child wear his bike helmet even if he’s riding on the sidewalk that goes up to my front door. I’m the mom who cuts up the apple in the tiniest bite sized pieces so my kid won’t choke even though they’re in the third grade now.
Call me Super Safety Mom. Or call me Slightly Obsessive Mom. Either one is fine. I know that I need to relax. I know that I take it too far sometimes.
But these are my children. The loves of my life. These are the little people who have left their mark on my heart (and on my body) and I’m not about to let something happen to them.
So I enforce the helmet rule. I spray the bug spray to prevent West Nile Disease. I apply the sunscreen every other minute. I force them to wear rash guard shirts with their swimsuits to prevent skin cancer.
But I sometimes forget to turn on the first alert home security system. Maybe because I’m so busy worrying about all the other stuff. And it happens.
This summer I have tried to make sure that I’m more aware. Because again, these are my children. And they deserve to be safe…on their bikes, in the sun and most important in their home.
